DAY 14: A Non-Fictional Book...

I worked at Barnes & Noble during my Freshman year of college and remember frequently seeing this book on the N.Y. Times Bestseller bookshelf, but partook in the common cliche in judging the book by its cover. I'm not a religious person by nature and "pray" at the focal point of the cover caused me to turn my back upon it. Fast forward to 2010 and a more open-minded Fawn, the movie based on the book was coming out and starring one of my all-time favorites, the great Julia Roberts. This peaked my interest to investigate a little further and a combination of the movie trailer looking good and sticking to my little rule of wanting to read the book before I see the (usually abysmal) movie adaptation, I purchased the book in Florida last November. Not until I was on an airplane back to Florida this past February, did I crack the book open and start reading. I believe that everything happens for a reason in life. I was not meant to read this book when I first saw it about 6 years ago. I was meant to read it now, as a form of self-therapy and to gain a deeper understanding of my own emotional state. Recently, I've been thinking and feeling a lot of emotions and thoughts that are much different than in the past and is naturally a result of my age and where I stand in life at this moment. It can be a scary world out there, and what's even more scary is trying to figure out where you fit into the grand scheme of things. Through the spiritual journey of Elizabeth Gilbert, I was able to find some amazing tokens of empathy. This book is amazing because not only does it put into words what I was never able to, but it helps every person that has ever felt lost or as if their life was out of control in many ways, to gain that grasp on life back and understand that they are not alone in their journeys to finding their serenity and peace to get through the rest of what life has to dish out. I will treasure this book forever, because it came at the right time when I needed to read it and recognize a lot of myself in the author. I highly recommend it to anyone that has ever searched deep within themselves for more happiness and needs a little boost.
