DAY 16: A Song That Makes You Cry (or Nearly)...

Two songs immediately came to mind. A few other songs came to mind as secondary preferences. Which one to pick? Well, I'm not about to break certain customs now, so naturally the answer is the first two that came to mind. Always go with your gut first.

When I was growing up, I would often watch television or movies with my Mom and one of the movies she always loved was Beaches from 1988, starring Bette Midler & Barbara Hershey. For all of you that do not know the story line, it's about two little girls that meet one another in Atlantic City and it's obvious from the first moment that both Hillary & CC come from opposite sides of the tracks - a classic rich girl meets poor girl movie. But as children often do, both girls do not pay any attention to their social statuses and instead spend one great afternoon together. As the years pass, the girls keep in touch and lose touch and go through every major up & down in their lives together, until the pivotal moment where both women realize that they have been one another's one consistent source of sisterly love ever and rely on that love to get them through the hardest challenge of all. The most well-known song from this movie is "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler and for anyone that has ever had that much love with a dear friend that they are fearful of losing because they are the wind beneath your wings, then you know why this song might bring tears to my eyes each and every single time I hear it.

The more modern song that really gets to me is "Never Say Never" by The Fray. It gave me chills the first time I heard it. Then I proceeded to hear it during epic & emotional scenes of two of my favorite television shows at the time (Grey's Anatomy & One Tree Hill) and it never stopped giving me chills since then. Reaching that one moment of truth where it's "do or die" or where you are begging for something or someone to not give up on you even though they have every reason in the world to do so or a song to just let your tears flow cause the sadness in the world weighs a little more than you can bear that day or because it reminds me of a heartbreaking experience in my life that changed everything (and will never be forgotten). The song is about all of those things for me, some days it's about all of the above and other days it's just one of those items over the others...
